Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • How many children are in foster care?

Over 400,000 children in the United States are in the foster care system at any given moment.  In Florida alone, around 24,000 children are in foster care.

  • Where does Fostering Kindness operate?

We are based in Central Florida.  We serve children in six counties:  Orange, Seminole, Volusia, Flagler, St. Johns, and Osceola.

  • Are donations tax deductible?

Yes!  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.  Donation receipts provided upon request, and automatically for annual donations totalling $250 or more.  Please be sure to provide your email and mailing address for our records!

  • How do you get gifts to the kids?

We work with several agencies to reach the children we serve.   Case managers and state-appointed Guardians help us deliver to the children directly.  In some counties, our CEO, Alison Spalding, delivers gifts and supplies directly to the children under the supervision of group homes and Guardians.

  • Can I donate my child's gently used toys and clothes?

There are lots of great charities accepting used donations, but because we focus on giving gifts, we believe all items should be new with tags.  Please consider local shelters for clean and gently used items!
